PLEA FOR HATTIE

Hattie's story is bittersweet.....she is a darling small aussie/collie mix who came into the Merced Shelter with two dogs who were thought to be her mom and dad.

All three dogs were very scared and thought to be aggressive.  Hattie appeared to be around 7 mos old - but it was hard to tell...as she spent most of her time huddled in the corner - even growling on occasion!  I let the shelter know I would take her and assess her out of that environment...she spent her first days in a pen here at my house and got used to my other dogs checking her out....she then moved in to the house....and within a day or so was having a blast with the other dogs, running and playing - jumping in the doggie pool!  She came out of her shell and was the sweetest thing!  Super gentle and loving, and she loves to give the sweetest little kisses!

We took her in to be spayed and learned that she has a grade 6 heart murmur...this is the highest grade possible.  We just were able to get her ultrasound done this week and the news is good and bad.....

She requires surgery to save her life, but the surgery will be nearly $2500.  It's been a horrible few months for our small non profit group.  Over $8000 has been spent on just a handful of dogs since June who needed hospitalization or major medical care.  I try not to beg - and made it the whole summer through all these medical emergencies (with the help of some wonderful friends and, of course, my parents!) - but at this point we have nothing for Hattie....so we are looking for your help!

We hope to raise at least half of the money needed - if we can do that we can get the ball rolling on scheduling her surgery.....we are very desperate.  Hattie is such a wonderful girl who is finally having a good life - and she has so much ahead of her!

If you can help, you can donate through our Paypal link on the website under my name below - or feel free to email me for our mailing address.

If you would like more info on her diagnosis and condition, you can email me as well!

Remember all donations are tax deductible!

Boy it's been a busy month - and the last couple weeks have been crazy.....thankfully it's mostly been busy in a GOOD way :o)  We had several great adoptions that I will start the report off with!

Callie - collie mix -  what a sweet girl, but she did come with baggage and we were so happy to here her new family in Santa Rosa was committed to work through them!

Missy - chow/golden - a sweet and happy owner surrendered pooch, who seems to have finally found her new - and hopefully LAST - home!

Taffy - senior small terrier - found a great home that looked past her age and are thrilled to have her as a new addition!

Jessica - a beautiful blk shep mix - found a great home in West Sac - with a loving active household!

John - Jessica's son - went up to property in NV in a very dog friendly town - he will be spoiled and have plenty of chances to play in the water!

Jessie - stray lab/pitty mix - found a great home with 3 college students - they ADORE her and couldn't be happier!

Whiskers - terrier mix - despite an old leg injury, she found a loving family that already consider her their newest addition!

Hans and Greta - two adorable shep siblings - both found wonderful homes with loving people and other dogs to play with!

Kahlua - owner placed bordercollie - found a great home with a young couple that is sure to spoil her!

Cody - shep/chow - is now a proud resident of Elk Grove and a 12 yr old boys new best friend!

Zina and Blondie - owner surrendered shep/terriers - both were adopted this week - YAY!!

Chico - tiny chi! - he found a great home in east sac with another little chi companion!

Red - beautiful red collie mix - was adopted by a couple who recently lost the dog they rescued years ago - they love him!

Gosh I know there were more...Scooter, Pete, Groucho......(can you believe them all!), but I think I'll stop there!

We actually haven't been rescuing a ton lately so don't have much to report - but here are the ones we have (or are getting) that need help!

Gracie - sweet older cattle dog/spitz mix - very easy and mellow, but does get fiesty and want to play on occasion..FOSTERHOME NEEDED!

Katie - beautiful, dopey lab/shep mix - she is Jessica's daughter - she is fun and playful, but shy and needs a home that will be patient (and has another fun pooch!)

Big Charlie - a sweet adult lab mix - seems to be great and easy going - would be good in almost any home....

Frankie - spaniel mix with the heart murmur - we really need to find him a home - poor boy!

Peanut - she is an owner surrendered pitty mix - super sweet and cute - would do best as the only pooch in a home - so keep an eye out for someone who wants only one dog!

Janet and Crissy - adorable chi's!!  So sweet and cute - very loving and playful!  Can't believe they are not adopted yet - FOSTERHOMES ARE NEEDED!

Mississippi Doxie - Our wonderful fostermom Kara rescued a doxie when she down in the southern states - he has heartworm which will will take care of - I have yet to meet him, but can't wait!

And the dogs that should be coming this week:

Hattie - sweet shy small shep mix - poor girl!  She will be so happy to be out of the shelter!

Marilyn and George - I will attach pix of them - the picture says 1000 words.....poor babies!

Also potentially two pooches from down south, but we will wait to see if they make it up before we list them!

And sadly we lost sweet Courtney - she was a tiny little terrier pup - she seemed fine upon rescue but 2-3 days later acted sick - she spent 5 days at the vet on IV's then passed away....the dogs rescued and adopted this month are in honor of her.......

Just thought I'd give you all an update on the "Lab Mixes" that came from Merced who were in such horrible condition....

The pups are doing WONDERFULLY - thanks in full to the absolute greatness of their fostermom, Beth, these dogs are actually having fun being normal dogs and feeling good for the first time in their short lives!

Beth brought them out to our vet yesterday - they both looked BEAUTIFUL!  George tested negative for demodex...and although Marilyn still tested positive, she has fur all over and is turning out to be a beautiful girl!

She saw the eye doctor and she is most likely going to have her one eye removed, but we think she will feel so much better without that irritation....

They both seem to be super happy and super healthy!  I will be posting them on the site tonight and we will be looking for a home that has room for them both - as they are very bonded :o)

Here are some pix - a couple from before and a couple of them now :o)
