Tillie was a Schipperke/Corgi mix that I got as a puppy. She was a wonderful, loving friend to me for 13 years. She was there by my side through it all – divorce, kidney surgeries, dad dying, son moving away. She kept me going with her strength and unconditional love. But finally in July of this year, I discovered she had a bladder tumor that was causing her much pain and discomfort. Her vet didn’t think it was treatable. I couldn’t let her suffer any more, it was time to let her go. To say I was devastated would be an understatement. I wrote this poem for her as a humble statement of my feelings for her, and the kind of friend she was to me. Jim Lane |
